HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech earned the WCHA's automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament and will play Notre Dame on Friday (March 23). The Huskies and Fighting Irish will meet at 3 p.m. Eastern at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut in the East Region.
Tech will make its 13th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament and the third in the last four years. The Huskies have won the National Championship three times (1962, 1965, and 1975) in their 97-year history.
Notre Dame is 25-9-2 overall this season and won the Big Ten regular season and playoff championships. The Fighting Irish have been ranked in the top five all season and currently sit second in the Pairwise Rankings.
Tech is 22-16-5 overall and won the Jeff Sauer Trophy as WCHA Playoff Champions Saturday (March 17) with a 2-0 shutout of archrival Northern Michigan.
ESPN2 and WatchESPN will televise the game and the winner will advance to play Providence or Clarkson in the East Regional Championship for a spot in the Frozen Four in St. Paul. Mix 93 WKMJ will also broadcast the game with an online stream available at Pasty.net.
