MARQUETTE, Mich. – Michigan Tech fell 3-0 Saturday (March 2) at Northern Michigan to wrap up the regular season. The Huskies will travel to Bowling Green for the first round of the WCHA Playoffs next weekend.
"I give Northern credit," Tech coach Joe Shawhan said. "They out-skated us, out-competed us, and made us uncomfortable. They play well in this building on this big ice.
"We gained some momentum at the start of the second and third periods but then took a penalty each time. I was happy with the way our young forwards played tonight."
Troy Loggins scored the first two goals for the Wildcats. He scored 10:02 into the game and again 12:21 into the second period on the power play.
Mitchel Slattery added NMU's third goal 17:02 into the second. Adam Rockwood and Philip Beaulieu each had two assists for NMU, while Darien Craighead and Atte Tolvanen also added helpers.
Tech wraps up the regular season with a 14-18-1 overall record and 13-12-3-1 mark in the WCHA.
Other first-round WCHA matchups are Alabama Huntsville (8) at Minnesota State (1), Alaska (7) at Northern Michigan (2), and Bemidji State (5) at Lake Superior State (4). The first round is a best of three series.
"I'm looking forward to next weekend at Bowling Green," added Shawhan. "It's a tough place to play, but I think it's great that we have to go there and face some of our demons. I'm excited to get after it in practice this week and start the playoffs."
