HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech Nordic ski team will close the 2018 calendar by hosting the 2018 MTU CXC Cup at the Michigan Tech Trails on Saturday (Dec. 15) and Sunday (Dec. 16).
The Huskies opened their season last week in Ishpeming, Michigan at the NMU Open. Junior Sarah Goble finished first in Saturday's Freestyle and first in the 10k Classic on Sunday. On the men's competition, senior Gaspard Cuenot finished second in the Saturday Freestyle and seventh in Sunday's 15k Classic. Freshman Kristoffer Vollset was the highest-finishing Husky on Sunday as he took sixth in the 15K Classic.
Saturday's race will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the men's 10k Classic race with an interval start style, followed by the women's 5k Classic race at 11 a.m. with an interval start style. On Sunday, the day's activities will begin at 9 a.m. with the women's 10k Freestyle race with mass-start style and will end following the men's 10k Freestyle at 10 a.m.
Along with the races this weekend, there will be a number of events for Michigan Tech Nordic ski alumni and friends of the program. A Coaches Social will be held on Saturday from 7-10 p.m. at the Keweenaw Brewing Company for alumni and friends of the program to come out and meet the Nordic ski coaching staff.
On Saturday and Sunday, Michigan Tech alumni and friends of the program are invited to come out and cheer the Huskies on as they race against some of the top teams in the region. In addition, there will be following Sunday's race an Alumni & Friends 5k Open Race at 1:30 p.m.
