RHINELANDER, Wis. – Junior Sarah Goble took second in Saturday's 10k Classic and first in Sunday's 5k Skate as the Michigan Tech Nordic ski team won the CCSA team title at the 2019 UW-Green Bay Invitational.

Goble finished second in the 10k classic with a time of 33:16.58, 1.9 seconds off competition winner Nicole Schneider of Northern Michigan and 0.9 seconds ahead of NMU's Abigail Jarzin in third. Goble followed up Saturday's performance with a first-place finish in the 5k Skate, clocking in at 14:55.24. Goble was joined inside the Top 10 by junior Amanda Kautzer, who finished ninth with a time of 33:57.96 on Saturday and a second-place finish on Sunday with a time of 15:26.36. Senior Erin Lipp also put in a good performance on Sunday by placing sixth with a time of 16:17.15.

Freshman Kristoffer Vollset finished third in the men's 15k with a time of 41:06.07. The Norwegian first-year skier was joined in the Top 10 by Reid Goble, Thomas Bye, Mark Ousdigian, and Patrick Acton. Goble took seventh with a time of 41:16.94, and he was followed by Bye (8th) with a time of 42:43.02, Ousdigian (9th) with a time of 42:46.55, and Acton (10th) with a time of 42:57.53.

On Sunday, Acton crossed the finish line with a time of 26:06.06 to finish first in the 10k Skate. The sophomore was one of six Huskies inside the Top 10 in Sunday's Skate race. Bye finished second in the race with a time of 26:08.5, followed by Goble in fourth with a time of 26:24.73, Vollset in seventh with a time of 26:56.58, and senior Daniel Wood in eighth with a time of 26:59.05.

The combined performance by the men's and women's teams gave Michigan Tech a team win in the competition.

"It was great to have both the men's and the women's teams stack the podiums this weekend," said head coach Thomas Smith. "Our student-athletes showed a lot of resiliency this weekend in dealing with the adversity of the weather."

The Huskies return to Ishpeming for the NMU Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 2) and Sunday (Feb. 3). MTU was last in Ishpeming to open the 2018-19 season at the NMU Open.
