HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech Nordic Ski team saw more success on the trails in the distance events at the 2020 L.L. Bean U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships in Houghton, Michigan. In the Classic Mass Start on Sunday (Jan. 5), the Huskies placed four skiers inside the top 20 of their respective races.
In the men's 30K Classic, Reid Goble crossed the finish line with a time of 1:21:19.9. His time placed him 17th overall, seventh among under-23 skiers, and third among American under-23 competitors. Aleksi Leino crossed the line of the arduous race with a time of 1:23:14.5, placing him 32nd overall and 18th among senior skiers.
In the women's 20K Classic, Henriette Semb and Amanda Kautzer both earned spots in the top 20. Semb clocked in at 1:08:39.4 to finish 18th overall and seventh among under-23 skiers, while Kautzer placed 19th overall, eighth among under-23 skiers, and seventh among American under-23 skiers when she crossed the finish line in 1:08:39.4. Sarah Goble also raced for Tech in the distance event and recorded a time of 1:10:15.8 to place her 30th overall, 18th overall among under-23 competitors, and 15th against American under-23 skiers.
Anabel Needham and Emma Albrecht represented the Black and Gold in the girls' 7.5K Classic. Needham posted a time of 26:06.8 to finish 18th overall and 11th among fellow under-20 competitors, while Albrecht skied a time of 26:13.8 to place 21st overall and 12th against under-20 skiers.
The Huskies will conclude their competition at the 2020 L.L. Bean U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships on Tuesday (Jan. 7) with the Classic Sprint race. The day's action begins with women's and men's qualifiers at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., respectively.
