Soccer Posts Tie at Ohio Dominican

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Michigan Tech freshman McKenzie Hengesh scored one goal and assisted on the other in a 2-2 draw at Ohio Dominican in GLIAC soccer action Friday (Sept. 9). The tie is the first in school history for the Huskies.

"We had moments when we played well but couldn't capitalize," said head coach Michelle Jacob. "We didn't play a consistent game."

Despite playing a full 110 minutes, all of the scoring in the match took place in the first half.

Jordon Mazzi opened the scoring for the Panthers with a header in the 14th minute.

Sophomore Katie Boardman tied the game at 1-1 with her third goal of the season in the 24th minute. Hengesh sent a through pass up the middle to Boardman who buried it in the far side of the goal.

Megan Augusta gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead with her break-away goal in the 42nd minute, but the Huskies would equalize two minutes later.

Hengesh capitalized on a defensive error in the Panthers end to score her third goal of the season unassisted.

The Huskies had the best opportunity in the second half but were unable to capitalize on a penalty shot in the 70th minute.

Sophomore MaryBeth Spoehr made three saves for the Huskies and Laura Clark made 10 for the Panthers.

Tech finished with a 21-14 advantage in shots and Ohio Dominican was whistled offsides a whopping 14 times.

Tech will play at Grand Valley State Friday (Sept. 16).
