Huskies Add Phelps to Coaching Staff for 2019 Season

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Michigan Tech women's soccer program and Head Coach Michelle Jacob are pleased to announce that Jenna Phelps will be joining the staff as a graduate assistant coach for the 2019 season. Phelps was a goalkeeper for the Huskies from 2012-2015, earning 34 career victories in front of the net.

"We are delighted to announce that Jenna Phelps is returning to Tech as a graduate assistant coach," Jacob said. "As a member of our Husky family, she is well prepared to help our student athletes be the best they can be both on and off the field. Since graduating from Michigan Tech, Jenna has been both a high school head coach and a college assistant coach along with working full time. Her involvement with the team will focus on Goal Keeper training, yet include all facets of preparing and managing our team. Welcome Back Jenna!"

Phelps served as an assistant coach at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh during the 2016 through 2018 seasons. As a student athlete at Tech, Phelps logged 22 shutouts and 256 saves while allowing only 1.09 goals per game during her four years. In 2012, Phelps won 13 games, had 81 saves, and permitted less than a goal per match (0.92) to opponents. Ten of her 13 wins that season came via shutouts, helping lead the Huskies to a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular championship and a 14-3-2 overall record. Phelps will be pursuing a Master's Degree in Kinesiology.

"I'm thrilled to be returning to Michigan Tech this fall," Phelps said. "The opportunity to work with exceptional coaches and student-athletes at my alma mater is extremely exciting. I can't wait to continue my academic and coaching careers in a community that has always been a second home to me."

The Huskies wrapped up the 2018 campaign with an overall record of 10-6-1 and finished fourth in the GLIAC standings thanks to a conference mark of 5-4. Tech has now qualified for the post season for seven straight years and recorded double digit win totals for the fifth time in the nine-year history of the program.
