HOUGHTON, Mich. - Michigan Tech Head Coach Kevin Kalinec and the women's tennis program are pleased to announce the addition of Dominika Bobik to the 2019-20 recruiting class. Bobik has signed her National Letter of Intent and joins Lauren Opalewski and Apurva Manas, who signed with the Huskies in November, in this year's recruiting class.
"We are fortunate to find a player of Dominika's skill level at this point in the recruiting year," Coach Kalinec said. "She's a very athletic player with very good speed and footwork who has extensive international playing experience and is currently the 44th ranked women's player in Poland. Dominika also has a strong academic background and will be a great fit for our team and program."
Bobik is from Wroclaw, Poland and prepped at Krzysztof Baczynski General Secondary School No. VIII where she earned a number of accolades for her play on the court. Bobik secured a bronze medal in the U18 Polish National Championship in doubles, advanced to the quarterfinals in the U18 singles at the Polish National Championships, finished fifth at the Polish National Women's Championships in singles, and moved into the quarterfinals at the Polish National Women's Championships in doubles.
In addition to tennis, Bobik was a standout athlete in track & field along with cross country. She earned a bronze medal in the regional finals of the 800m run in 2017 and 2018 and holds the school record in the 60m (8.74 seconds), which she set in 2016. Bobik was also a team captain on the track & field team in 2018 and 2018. Bobik plans to major in Business at Michigan Tech.
The Huskies are currently 9-4 on the season and will be back on the court for the spring season Saturday February 23rd at Hillsdale before playing Tiffin at the Midland Tennis Center Sunday February 24th.
